Any advice on what to do at a casino? First timer here.

I'm a 24 year old woman. My husband and I are going to a casino resort for our birthday next month. I've been to a casino, but wasn't able to go into the part that had all the slots because I was only 20 at the time. I don't know anything about what to do or what etiquette to follow while there. Not sure how to play slots or other casino games? Are they called games? I'm clueless and I just wanna have fun when we get there and not have to worry about looking stupid.

Heists!
When: Saturday August 24 at 9:00 AM Pacific/Noon Eastern/5 PM UTC. We will launch at that time with or without you so please be sure to online and available to join the host session up-to 15 mins prior to the event’s start time!. Invitations into the host session will be sent up to the last three minutes until we launch. If you have not received an invitation by 10 minutes prior to the events start time, please reach out to the host via PSN PM, to make the host aware of your presence. Yes this includes even those those on my friends list! Event will be canceled by 9:10 AM Pacific time if we fail to have anyone attend.
Where: We will meet at Garagedwella’s Penthouse at the casino, make sure I’ve got you added as a friend(be sure to mention you're from our crew in the invite) or that your active in any GTA Online session with our crew set as your active crew. I will be able to send you invites to bring you into my session. Doomsday heist setups are done in the open online world so you will need to be in the same session as me if we do any of them!
What’s happening: We are going to do a heist (or two)! Exact heist TBD
Event description/notes: This event is limited to a max of four, if interested please mention so in a comment below so I can know who’s coming! If I’m unable to fill all four slots with crew mates I may at my discretion open the party to allow random players to join us to fill any vacancies. Please be sure to have a working mic! What’s happening: Live air traffic control provided on a rotation basis by your crew mates! Event details/notes: The AiCar Show event will roll directly into this event, please try to attend both of your able to! You must have a working Mic to take part event, we are striving for realism so all Readback is required when interacting with someone playing the role of a controller! Listen to and communicate any issues with the current ATC controller, failure to do so will result in a Pilot Deviation Report which may affect your ability to participate in Live ATC future events!
IMPORTANT: We will be using a non standard chart (not the ones in the sidebar of our sub.) Please be sure to familiarize yourself with these charts prior to the start of the event in addition to having access to them via a nearby laptop or smartphone for reference during the event! Event will run up-to 90 mins with controller changes every 30 mins. If we have enough people playing we will have separate party chats set up each hosted by a current controller preforming that specific task. PLEASE NOTE: The following changes and restrictions; 1. Military aircraft may use all airports except Grapeseed. 2. Non Military aircraft are forbidden at Fort Zancudo, with the exception of true emergencies (Sandy Shores is close by so if you you should make landing there a priority over Zancudo unless extreme circumstances prevent you from safely reaching Sandy Shores, Grapeseed or LSIA. non military aircraft may not enter the Fort Zacudo No Fly Zone. This zone is defined as follows; the base side of the summit of the mountain range beyond the treatment plant adjacent to Fort Zacudo, East road following the edge of the slough from the main gate (on the base side of the slough) to the ocean. 10,000 feet from the approach end of the runway over the ocean. Aircraft may overfly the base at heights exceeding 5,000 feet provided they are not interfering with the approach or departure corridors of the bases runways. civilian aircraft/vehicles may enter Fort Zacudo to retrieve aircraft from thier Private Hanger with prior notice given to ATC/Base Command 3. Use of Grapeseed is restricted to small prop only aircraft and Helicopters. 4. Sandy Shores and Grapeseed are uncontrolled, call outs should be made as normal when approaching/departing/making ground movements. These call outs should be made on the General ATC party chat, as you will need to reach out to this controller to coordinate clearances to your destination. ATC will not aknowledge your call out unless you address them as you are at an uncontrolled airport, however should you contact/be contacted by ATC, you will required to readback instruction given to you such as a clearence. 5. ATIS Service is not provided, however you may ask your current controller for weather reports, and PIREP’s. 6. For the charts the airports listed as Jetsam, and Docks are not going to be used so disregard those pages. Also the Pier 1 RNAV will not be used so please also disregard that page! 7. The number of controllers and party chats will scale according to workload of the controllers. Fewer pilots in attendance will mean fewer ATC staff, who will cover multiple roles (All LSIA functions. Or another example is a single controller may handle the entire air traffic duties of the session if it’s just three or four people flying, and we only use game chat and no party chats.) 8. The phonetic military alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, etc.) will be in use, learn it now and be prepared to use it! 9. All airspace and ground movement are controlled, with the exception of Sandy Shores and Grapeseed. You should always be in contact with an ATC controller regardless of flight level if you are moving outside of these two exempted airports! Failure to do so may result in the military interception. In the event of this happening you are required to follow the direction of a Los Santos Civil Air Patrol aircraft or any military Aircraft under the active orders of the Military or ATC. The use of lethal force is authorized, when required by a clear and immanent threat that is posed by a non complaint aircraft to other aircraft or civilians in the air or on the ground. These is especially important should you violate the no fly zone surrounding Fort Zacudo!. A briefing on these procedures will be given to all in attendance at the beginning of the event. Further instructions will be given those who will rotate though as ATC or Military officials. Do not take being intercepted or being shot down lightly, it means you seriously screwed up both as a pilot and as a crew mate of Aviators of GTA! You can bank on sanctions being placed on your ability to participate in future crew events, or in the crew period!
Ground vehicles must use the marked and dedicated vehicle roadways at LSIA, don’t ever leave the aprons and enter the active runways or areas (grass) directly next to a runway without explicit permission from the tower controller at LSIA. Ground vehicles must yield to all aircraft in motion at all airfields! 10. All aircraft are welcome, except hoverbikes/cars. The host and ATC reserves the right to request you change aircraft, limit or forbid any aircraft of their choosing at any time to maintain realism. Failure to change aircraft when requested to do so in a reasonable time frame, will result in your removal from the session and repeated issues caused by a member at any event may affect their privileges to attend certain or any and all official (hosted by staff) crew events and furthermore may also jeopardize their membership in Aviators of GTA. 11. Call signs will be discussed at the beginning of the session to decide if we will use random N prefixed(serial numbers), Flight numbers, usernames or a mix of any of the three. 12. The host (Garagedwella) will act as the supervisor of all ATC, and may appoint additional people as supervisors if required just as you would in any FAA controlled tower or center outside of GTA, the Supervisor is there to be a resource to both the ATC staff and the Pilots when things go wrong or if you just feel unsure about something. If you require the Supervisor for any reason and they are out flying, please address them as "Supervisor [Username]" initially over the mic to get their attention. This will distinguish this communication as in internal consultation from an ATC staff member or pilot requiring assistance, over a routine ATC to Pilot (or the other way around) conversation. 13. Should something be destroyed in a manner where a vehicle or aircraft remains fouls a runway or taxiway with FOD (Foreign Object Debris). Notify ATC ASAP about the hazard and remove it ASAP before resuming flying activities! 14. This session will not be devoid of NPC (Non Player Controlled) Aircraft. This includes landing and taking off from airfields and taxiing. It is the player responsibility to be alert and call out any known hazards over frequency to alert controllers and pilots. NPC will not appear on Radar for controllers so if you are unable to comply with instructions given by ATC report so over frequency and advise ATC as to why.
TLDR; Listen to what we (staff and ATC) say and nobody gets hurt. There is a refresher on Session Etiquette and ATC instructions under the "Read Before Flying W/ ATC" section of the sidebar.

Talking to people in a casino

I live near several casino resorts (Shreveport, LA), and I know that people from Dallas (or really, many areas in Texas) come there, basically on vacation. I'd like to get better at talking to others. So, what's the etiquette for talking to others at these kinds of places. For the record, these are resorts, like with bars, pools, restaurants, and hotels attached to them. Also, while I'm not much of a gambler, I do go onto the floor to do what I call "slow rolling", that is, go to the slots, bet only the minimum as slow as I can, and then get the free drinks.

I played live for the first time today!

Mini-Background: I play a ton of online poker at up to £100NL 6-max playing kinda semi professionally over the university summer break. Never played live before today.
So today I went to Aspers in Westfield Stratford shopping centre. Inside aspers it is pretty dingy, the poker room at the back so you have to walk past all the slots + the pit first (probably to try and waylay people I imagine). I sat down at £1/1 (only game running, which was then 6 handed) with £100 in chips.
I get dealt in immediately without posting a blind which confused me (I thought I would have to post), a player explained I could either call, raise or fold when the dealer looked at me. He asked if I had played before, I said I had never played live. I am not putting my blind in correctly and not realising the action is on me for the first orbit so my image is currently full retard.
Table is one old white guy, Ukrainian guy in 30s, 2 white guys 25-40 and 3 guys who I would guess are Turks or Arabs with London accents. People come and go for a bit.
Standard of play is lol. A few gems:
1) Old man limps utg, everyone limps, BB makes it 12, UTG makes it 40, folds to BB who calls. Flop A24r. BB checks, Old man shoves, BB calls and says 'if you have an ace you win'. Turn/river are bricks, old man shows A4o, BB mucks.
2) Folds to MP who raises to 3, BU makes it 5 total.
3) UTG limps, UTG+1 limps, MP limps and later shows down AKs.
4) 4 people limp to BB who makes it 3 total.
Actual hands I played:
1) I flat an open with 66 and fold to a cb when I miss the flop 4 handed.
2) After folding 100% of hands pre for 40 minutes I pick up AdKd UTG. I have £90 (paid the blinds lots) villains cover). We are 6/7 handed.
I make it £8, SB and BB call. Flop A67r. I bet £17 into £24, SB folds, BB calls. Turn 9 (possibly a flush draw I can't remember). BB donks for £17. I think for a bit and announce 'all in'. BB asks me how much that is, I say I don't know and the dealer counts that it is £65 total. When he asks for a count I am like 100% to have the best hand, but I am insanely nervous somehow. I just sit there and stare at the table. BB says 'you look nervous'. After like 20 seconds (it felt like about 10 minutes) he calls. 'I ask the dealer if I should turn my hand over but he misses this and just deals Qo river (no flush possible). BB says you win and throws his cards forward face down and I don't move or turn my hand over. I am wary of somehow screwing up and getting angled out of £180ish in the pot and waiting for the dealer to tell me what to do. BB says' turn your hand over' and I just sit there with my hand covering my cards. At this point there is a disagreement between BB and another player vs the dealer and another player as to if I have to showdown my hand to win the pot. BB: 'I have played loads of poker before, you have to show your hand...well this is a ridiculous rule'. Dealer pushes the pot towards me and says I can either show or not show. I say I am not showing unless I have to and muck. OMC says I have AK+ because I have not played a hand for 40 minutes and have to have it. BB Seems upset. He tells me he had 5 high and had some draws, but I don't tell him what I have. Did I do the right thing here? Can someone tell me what the etiquette is here?
2 minutes later Mr 5 high gets it in pre vs someone else for about £300 with AK vs AQ. Board comes out J733Q and Mr 5 high leaves in a huff.
That is it, I VPIPed 2 hands in like 70 minutes. I cashed out for £166 for £66 profit. I also got a free £5 slots voucher and put it on red to give me another £10.
Other things I noticed:
1) It was surprisingly hard to keep up with the action, I can play 4 tables of 6-max cash online happily but 1 table live 8 handed seemed really fast somehow. Nobody was tanking like in the WSOP.
2) Everyone there seemed like a dirty degen, some guys had been there since last night, this was at Noon on Monday.
3) Some guy ordered a pizza at the table and then ate it at the table wtf.
4) I went to take a piss before I sat down, there was a guy next to me tying his tie in the mirror. He said I was the first guy since he came in there to wash my hands after pissing. MFW As soon as I leave the casino I go into the next shop and wash my hands thoroughly.
5) Going to the cashier and cashing out my large handful of £5 chips felt baller as fuck even though it obviously wasn't.
6) Some people tipped and some didn't. Some guy tipped when he sat down. I didn't tip when I won the £180 pot (was too confused about the showing etiquette) but I gave the girl £3 when I stood up. Not sure if this is OK.
7) there were a ton of staff there, like 35+ people working there plus whoever was in the back which seemed a ridiculous amount considering there were not many people playing.
8) It felt somewhat seedy. It was much more like lock stock and 2 smoking barrels than Casino Royale.
9) I am not sure if I am just autistic or something, but the social aspect of poker seems like total BS. The sort of people who I want to talk to and the sort of people who are in the casino at 11AM on a Monday are two entirely separate groups. Also of the 10+ people who I played with zero were women. Slots and the pit were way more balanced but still like 2/3 men vs 1/3 women.
10) people are buying in and sitting / coming back with totally random stacks between £40 and £500 which is weird.
11) With the rake + tips I feel like we are all getting ravaged by the rake.
12) Live players suck.

[brag/advice] $27k BBJ that I hit this weekend

So a lot of happened in this night so I'll try and keep it concise. I have been going to this casino for two years roughly twice a month and generally been well received. I have learned all I know about live poker here and some players have definitely profited off that.
So after blowing my budgeted $100 on slots I did that sinful ATM withdrawal to go play poker. $1/2/10 full kill spread limit was the only game open as players were filtering out of the daily tourney that night. I sat down with $100 which is the standard buy in this game. We quickly became 9 handed after I sat down.
I was up about $30 when I got Kh9h UTG. I limped in for $2 as this is a "lucky hand" of mine (I was not wrong). I get about 6 other limpers, I would class this field very weak with flops cheap to buy. I see Th Jh 6s on the flop I check and see a $10 raise OTB I call his raise and see a $20 re-raise MP, OTB folds and then I have a decision.
For me I was pot committed as I saw him clearly on a set, maybe two pair. I called to see Qh come on the turn, dream turn. It goes check-check to see a 6c on the river. At this point I'm not hearing anything. I tank for maybe 45 seconds. He has maybe 2-3 big bets left and looked ready to get them in. I raise to $10 to a insta-shove, I call.
He has 6h 6d which qualifies for the BBJ. In one of the best moments in my life I slowroll for about 25 second declaring "Oh my God" to show my straight flush. The room immediately becomes a ruckus I get up and shake hands/hug nearly everyone. The regs kinda grumbled but did smile. I had won $6.9k and the MP had ~$13k. This BBJ hadn't hit in 6-7 years and it was a surreal feeling.
It took about 90 minutes to go through all the processing to get the money. It was paid in cash and I was the 3rd-4th paid. I really wanted to leave but I knew I had to tip and play a little to maintain some etiquette. I tipped $100 intially and everytime I won a hand tipped another $100. I gave $350 just over 5% I also gave $10 to the waitress and $50 to the rest of the staff. I only saw the big winner give $100 and only one of the table gave $50.
The winner bought two rounds one I offered to pay for. I felt very judged in the table and was repeatedly called lucky. I feel that I under tipped​ somehow and since I didn't buy a drink I was rude. I don't feel comfortable going back to the room as I feel I will be looked down upon.
After the two beers I felt more buzzed than I should and I didn't want to play anymore. I called my last hand in good notice and thanked the dealer again and said goodbye to everyone. I had some comments upon leaving that I felt were loaded "goodbye you lucky shit" was one.
I am generally a nice guy and I feel this has changed how I view live poker altogether. Most of the guys and girls in the room are middle aged/elderly and lowemiddle class. What would anyone have done differently and are there any dealers who feel I handled this wrong?

What got you into Poker?

For me, I had a ton of fun playing games like 5-card Stud and party card games like BS, Spoons, Egyptian Rat Screw, War, etc with my family ever since I was really young.
My parents told me I used to stack the deck when I thought they weren't looking, as young as 5 years old. They caught me after I got a bunch of good hands in a row and pretended to walk away, then watched me do it when I thought they were gone.
Anyway, I've always had an affinity for math, logical problem-solving (I'm a software developer) and, most importantly, money. Kept telling a coworker of mine that I thought I'd be good at the game and he invited me out to play on New Year's Day, 2016 at our local casino. He told me there'd be plenty of drunk idiots to play against. This was 3 says before New Year's and I said "fuck it I'll play"
I bought in for $120 at the $1/2 game with him at the table and, frankly, played like a moron. I barely knew the rules, I basically spent my time the 3 days prior reading "newbie mistakes to avoid in hold'em" and "table etiquette" articles ad nauseum to try and do as well as possible with only 3 days to study.
I thought I played pretty well because I ended up with an $80 profit. Threw $20 in a slot machine on the way out to celebrate and hit another $140 off of that. Needless to say, I was hooked after that.

6. Make Tipping Classy

Casino Ham

Me: 6'1" 185. In my prime Army days, I ran about 170. I hit 220 after I got out, enjoying funemployment by eating barbecue, drinking beer, and waiting for my college application to go through. Dropped 35 pounds by cutting back on soft drinks, beer, fast food, teaching myself to cook balanced meals, my girlfriend adopting a crazy dog who needed to be walked all the time, and making smaller portions.
So my Dad was developing this remote, upscale hunting & fishing camp in the ass-end of rural Minnesota. I went to visit him, and there really wasn't much around except for the local tribe's casino.
Like most American casinos, they had an all-you-can-eat buffet. We went on their Prime Rib dinner night. All you can eat Prime Rib for $12 bucks? I'm sold. The food was actually good, but not great quality, and had some interesting dishes of locally harvested Minnesota wild rice.
The chef cutting slabs of prime rib had a few customers waiting, so I decided to get a salad and my sides (starch and veg) while the line cleared out. For unlimited quantities of decent food for a reasonable price, this galaxy was surprisingly free of hamplanets. I'm scooping up some rice pilaf when I hear rhythmic booming behind me, and I feel the floor vibrate. I assume the maintenance crew was wheeling out a broken slot machine or something. A very big one. Then, in this obnoxious Fargo accent, I hear "What da FUCK are ya doin'?" being literally yelled in my ear. The f-bomb was dropped loud enough to turn most of the heads in the dining area, which was packed with families.
I turn around, and there's my Casino Ham. 5'6", and at least 400 pounds. It's hard to tell his height, because his gigantic belly has thrown him off-balance to the point he's sort of permanently leaning backwards.
Browning Firearms hat pulled down low, with greasy, curly hair spilling out the sides. Gigantic glasses thick enough to see through time. Neckbeard over a chin fat enough that it's starting to eat his whole head. Whatever this beast is, it's angry, and its anger is directed at me.
I step back and take in the whole picture. Black t-shirt with belly spillage and a "Cheesy / Sexy Indian Princess gazing at the stars" graphic, which is kind of offensive for a white dude to wear at a place whose employees are about 90% Ojibwa. Wide, bright red suspenders holding up a pair of acid-washed jeans holding on for dear life, which hitch up his pant legs to reveal a few inches of pasty, meaty shins. I'm suddenly reminded of the pants from the Ants in the Pants game, and try not to laugh.
"Excuse me?" "I SAID, 'what in da FUCK ya doin'?'" It's quieter this time, at least. Not familiar with buffets, I assumed I had perhaps breached some sort of etiquette, or inadvertently cut in front of him. We had gotten there early, so there was really only a line at the meat carving station, so I assumed I was free to swoop in to the sides platters and salad bar.
My confused expression led to a smug grin of yellowing teeth. "Why ya eatin' dat SHIT?" The effort of spitting out a few sentences had winded the beast, and it was now snorting in great gulps of air through its flaring nostrils. Thin Privilege is being able to speak without being suffocated by your own chin.
I look down on my tray. A bowl of spinach salad, some steamed mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, and a small bowl of cream of wild rice soup. An empty dinner plate obviously awaiting a slab of prime rib.
I glance at his tray, which required the spatial awareness of a Tetris champion to accommodate all of the food. Pizza, tater tots, french fries, deep-fried walleye fingers, fried chicken, at least four desserts fighting for real estate, and the centerpiece was a plate of three prime rib steaks, stacked liked pancakes, and topped with a blob of horseradish sauce the size of a softball, next to a soup bowl of au jus, which he had actually put directly on the meat to save space. There's supposed to be a limit of one prime rib per visit to the meat carver, but I'm guessing Hamplanet either lied or browbeat the poor server into giving him three.
"Ya can't fill up on dat CRAP. That's how dem INJUNS, da sneaky FUCKS, dey FUCK YA! Ya gotta get the GOOD stuff and FUCK dem! DUMMY!" A series of snorts and wheezes follows like someone strangling a rabid mule.
I start to mumble awkwardly that I was waiting for the prime rib line, when he finally realizes he's wasting valuable eatin' time, and finally walks away, shaking his head and muttering about what a dumb fuck I am, leaving a trail of seismic disturbances in his wake. He manages to balance the overloaded tray on one flabby arm to scoop a fist full of fried walleye fingers into his mouth, to provide sustenance on his great journey across the Linoleum Plains to the dining area. I get in line for the carving station, and hear some high-pitched, female giggling behind me. I turn out of curiosity, and Ham has sat down next to his sow, who is testing the stitching of a Vikings jersey that could stretch over their entire offensive line. She has her own tray loaded with Beef N' Beetus, so despite whatever lie he told to the carver, he was not getting it for another person. They both make brief eye contact with me and he points at me with a fried chicken drumstick, while enthusiastically nodding and smirk-chewing. They continue to shake the walls with gales of hysterical laughter over their shared enjoyment of his ThinPeopleStory, over my failure to fuck dem sneaky redskins real good.

DogeVegas: BitVegas Minecraft Server, but for DOGE (Coming Soon!)

Hello my fellow shibe, (Disclaimer: I am new to Reddit in general, so if I say something that is against standard Reddit etiquette, please let me know, so I can correct myself) I'm sure many of you remember BitVegas, which was a Minecraft server that was a generous faucet that also allowed users to deposit and withdraw BTC and play with them on casino games and the like.
I have already programmed almost everything that is needed for the server, like a Dogecoin plugin that integrates with Vault, a Roulette Plugin, a plugin that makes your level show your account balance, etc. I have even created a DogeVegas texture pack from the ground-up. My intentions for the server are to create a self-sustaining faucet that everyone can benefit from, but there are a couple obstacles that I would like some advice before I launch the server (after some more testing): 1) I need a server. I know that there are countless server companies out there, but I would really like to rent from somewhere that accepts DOGE, so the server could almost automatically pay for itself, but all of the dogedirectory hosts and company are out of business. Is there anyone that you would recommend? 2) I live in the US (California to be specific), and we have some online gambling laws. As it stands right now, my understanding is that: a) DOGE is not a currency, it is a commodity, which you can legally "gamble," b) I'm not doing this for profit, so I wouldn't be a casino the normal sense, but instead, users could play the games for a chance at prizes, and losses are like donations to help support the server. I do not think that it would be illegal for me to do this, and I'm considering speaking to a local attorney to be sure, but before I waste the money, is there anything glaring that I have overlooked? 3) I only have roulette. What's the best way to go about getting a table/bottle service without completely breaking the bank? It's Vegas so of course it's not gonna be cheap by any stretch but do you have any tips to get the most bang for your buck? Stay away from clubs that have a Major Dj/ Act on that night. Fridays and Saturdays are the worst. They'll price you according to how many people you have. For example at Encore beach club, if you have 6 in your group they'll price you at $1k-1500 to start with. Night clubs usually start at 4/bottle. If you have women with you get them inside through a guest list. They'll get in free. Example, its 4 guys and 4 girls they'll want to get you on a two bottle minimum. Instead have the guys walk in for the one bottle minimum and let the girls know what table number youre at. TA-DA! Youll also get just enough seating for 4-6 but fuck it, youre in a club so get up and have fun!
Its all about real estate. If you just want to have a table to enjoy your own space and not have to worry about waiting at the bar then get a table situated off the side. Also give hosts a hard time, don't just say YES to the first offer. Maybe see if they can throw in a bottle of champ or something. Or a buy two get one free.
Whats the craziest thing you've seen in vegas? Craziest? uhm sex inside clubs. Sex in cabs. Sex out in the open. A girl once was sooo fucked up that she was walking around The Aria with only a bikini bottom and a fishnet top. That's it. I once met a group of 26 girls from a sorority from AZ that each paid $25. After I told them that it was fake two out of the seven girls started tearing. I got them on guest lists to access the clubs for free with one offering an open bar. Was happy to alleviate some of the pain.
Oh shit, I forgot! The guys that bring out their tables on the strip and do the whole follow the ball thing. The people winning work with them. Watch them, they'll win and make sure they let out a WHOOO really loud and make sure people are looking. They lure in others and make it look really easy to win. If so, what are the called and where are they? The Wynn and Encore are very lively at night. If you want to gamble and drink with a great view, that's the place. Venetian, Palazzo, Bellagio, Aria, and last but not least The Cosmopolitan ate great places with great energy. That theyre impossible to get in, theyre not fun, expensive to get in, girls are hard to meet/ leave the club with. The club I work for 75% of the times im able to get couples in free provided that they show up early. On slower nights Im able to get uneven ratios in (more guys than girls) or give tickets that grant free entrance. And the ladies. To me they all look the same BUT its hard to get over it. Ive seen guys pick up ladies super quick and they only had a beer in their hand, you don't need a massive table with free drinks galore. So everyone pays differently. I only work at SurrendeEncore Beach and have a day job so my time is limited. So Ill breakdown promotions as much as I can. First off there are different types of Promoters. You have the ones that work at a club like yours truly. Since I only work at SurrendeEncore Beach club, which is run by Las vegas Nightlife Group. I only get paid for people that come to my club. XS and Tryst are owned by the same people and we are all located at the Wynn/Encore. You then have Tao Group, Angel Management Group (AMG), and Light Group. Tao clearly has Tao, Tao beach, Marquee and Marquee Dayclub. AMG has (or had, Hakkasan just bought the group out). Hakkasan, Wet Republic, Pure, LAX, Chateau, Venus, Coyote Ugly, Saville Row. LG runs Light, Daylight, Haze, 1Oak, The Bank and a few lounges/restaurants. Tao group promoters can have guest lists at all their venues so if they leave a group with a great impression and they check in on their guest list at all joints then the person just made $ times the number of venues they checked in. Light Group usually confines their employees to one club, unless they need help filling out another (which they usually do) and allow them to be paid (I waited 8 months to get paid by them, I don't like the way they manage their places). AMG varies as well, I heard some are only focusing on Wet and Hak but heard that before they had to have a certain amount check in at other properties. With all this said, if youre a good promoter, hardoworking, and have a good network, 1k a week is a cakewalk. Even 2k can be done for the greater part of the summer. I know of a guy that can make 4-8k/wk and its all through his phone. Money can be real good IF you work hard and hit high numbers. Ill elaborate a little more later on tonight if anyone wants me to. I need to head home.
If you feel like elaborating, what's the difference between the 1k a week promoter and the promoter making 4-8k? Well if you don't bring any people and ate not being paid hourly then you might not get a check at all. Those that are successful in this biz network hard, are usually seasoned, and are good enough to the point that clients want to go back to them and refer them to others. Ive heard of hosts being flown to exotic places, gifts being custom made as gifts, and so on. Its really like any other sales job, many do it, some are good, few are great. There are also many ways to make money. You can book hotel rooms, sell packages, etc. where you receive a kick back. When done right its a win/win/win.
What's are your experiences like with the Vegas drain dwellers? Any good stories? Theyre all over the place. Usually just getting drunk and laying out on the sidewalk. I pay no attention to them. Some have demanded money and when I tell them I have no cash or simply say "sorry, cant help ya" at times can get very aggressive. Then they fall on their ass or something. Comical most of the times. Look at them too long though it becomes depressing. The sad thing is I see a lot that are soo young. There was this young girl with a sign that read "pregnant with 2nd child and cannot afford anything. please help". I sat down next to her and asked her why she was out there. I asked if she sought help. I was baffled that such a young person could be so out of luck. She proceeded with a story about her losing her Social Security Income when she moved to Arizona or something. When she moved back they denied her or something along those lines. In the end it seemed like she lost hope and possible gave up too quickly. She said she didn't have family to turn to. Those are the moments when I realize that I am lucky to have a great family that would take me in if I ever went near that route.
Whats a good tip to you afer helpi. Some people out? I don't ever expect to get tipped. I get paid by the club. There are always people who value what I do and slip me a $20,$40. The most I've ever been tipped was $160. It was for setting up someone with table service at a few clubs. Tips humble me, just buy me a shot and we're good!
Show up at club with a big line. What amount should you slip the bouncer to let you in and a date? What would you say? I'm always afraid i'll hand over a hundred bucks and he'll make me wait in line anyway. Depends on the club. If its just you and a date Id say start at $40. Order of difficulty to skip the line from hardest to easiest: All guys> More guys than girls>even ratio mixed group>all girls. That being said if its just a guy and a girl then Id start out at $40, they might come back with $60-$80. If you feel like pulling their bluff thank them for the help but youll just wait in line. Sometimes they'll see $40 better than nothing. Imagine if he does that 10 times a night? Not bad...
Another thing you might want to think about is say you just left at a restaurant that's in the casino. Id probably use the whole "My buddy So-and-so, manager at ___, told me to come check it out. I forgot the name of who Im supposed to ask though (maybe guess a name). Can we go in and check it out"? Worst case scenario is they say no, next is they let you pass and you pay cover, best thing is you walk in no line and no cover. Ive met people who have succeeded.
I read your comment about tipping and whatnot and how its not really necessary. i went last august with a group of 12 for my buddy's bachelor party and we got tables at light on a friday and lavo on a sunday. we tipped on both occassions, as i was under the impression that it was proper etiquette. for light we gave the guy a little over 200, and he was able to move us from a table on the 2nd floor in the corner to one that was pretty close to the main floor for the same bottle minimum (we had planned on giving him that much anyway before he moved us). at lavo we hooked the guy up with 100. were we too generous? or is that pretty standard? A 20% gratuity is always on the bill plus 8.1% tax. Now, with the $200+ you gave the host you then bettered your real estate setting in the club. While you don't really have to tip your host its customary to throw them a bone. You can get your table and have everyone leave you be except your busseserver. Start tipping security and they will make sure the crowd stays clear of your area. Tip your host and they seat you at a better table. Tip a "girl-guy" and they will bring you hot ladies. Now with that last one be very careful, ladies that table hop are very thirsty and the only way for them to stay alive is to have a constant source of alcohol. Party too hard and your 2k table has turned into 8k. Or your 7k has turned into 22k. Ive seen this happen at many clubs. If you just hit it big at the tables or hit a progressive at the slots then fuck it, LIVE IT UP! (Im kidding, save a small town from hunger).
Do promoters make a huge difference in cutting the line, hooks, and discounts, and saving money? Rather than just walking into the club blind? A good promoter wants your experience to be soo awesome that they contact you on their next visit or mention their name when a friend has Vegas plans. That said, our guest lists offer no cover or reduced entry. Express entry is only done when their at the ropes and have an incentive to get you inside faster. If youre a dude youll probably have to tip someone off to skip the line. When I come across a couple I always offer to set them up somewhere else the following night. Its simply good business and I believe in paying it forward. Before I moved to Vegas I made a trip with my SO and I know how hard the city can be without a hookup. I put myself in their shoes and do what I can for them. I always provide pics of my club and explain the whole line/open bar situation. I don't lie to them just for them to get in, it comes back to bite you in your ass.

Any place really! I've seen just about everything in my city but most bars here are dead(50-100k population being students alone!) Its really location specific. Im from Chicago and Vegas is a whole different ball game. We deal with people that are here for a short amount of time. In the end though all places want bodies inside their place. Motion created commotion so if youre in a place that's packed and fun people want to stay and consume more. Most important, get bodies inside the club/bar early. Before 11 is key. That way any propect walking by sees that its busy and wants to be part of the fun. Does this make sense?
What would you recommend as far as afterhours edm parties go? You might like Artisan. The times that Ive been there its been nothing but deep house and some edm. Really weird décor too, worth seeing. Body English and Drais usually mix it up.
What's the craft beer scene like? I've always been a fan of travel, and love checking out the local craft breweries/brewpubs in an area. Sin City brewery at a few casinos, Big Dog Brewery, Banger Brewery in Downtown, Chicago Brewery to name a few. Yard House carries a few local brew I believe.
Chicago Brewing, at Rampart and Ft Apache was my stomping ground for the two years that I lived in Summerlin. I loved that place. Surprise me. My favorite is XS. Hakkasan is the latest and greatest. It cost $100m and was named Nightclub&Bars best top club for 2014. Light inside the Mandalay Bay is awesome. I like Surrender because its an outdoor club with a dancefloor inside (I don't like being shoved every two seconds). Tryst is also cool with a 90ft waterfall. Marquee has always done well and is a must visit (it also gets too crowded for me though). It really depends if you like dancing in the middle of the dancefloor, what kind of music you like, outdoor vs indoor. Then you have your older clubs that still have a following like Pure, Tao. Maybe its because they've been around FOREVER.

Have you ever seen anyone win or lose a life-changing amount of money? If so, how did it go down? I saw a guy lose $1,000,000 once, I actually was dealing when he lost about $200,000 of that in about 15 minutes. It made me sick, but he didn't seem to mind much. Later he attempted to sue the casino because "clearly his drinks were spiked," but he later recanted that.
Also, what's the best way to score some comps? How to get comps: Play for a long time and/or have a strong average bet. Buying in for large amounts and then not playing won't get you comps. Alternatively, be a fun person and the supervisor will probably hook you up because we appreciate the fun (not drunk) people.
What if you are fun and drunk?? Those two words likely don't go together. Trust me, we deal with SO many people every night that if you're drunk we are probably throwing you in with the others no matter what.
I've always wondered about counting cards. People get thrown out for doing it, but it's something that happens entirely in an individual's mind. Surely this is not cheating, and although the casino stands to lose out, they have no right to throw somebody out for doing this. So my question is: Has anyone been caught counting cards at your casino? Were they thrown out? Were they allowed back? What were they told? Counting cards is not cheating at all. You're not doing anything but keeping a running total in your head and basing your play off of that. That being said, casinos are private businesses and can refuse service to anyone for any reason. Yes, people have been caught counting cards. The majority of them aren't that good at it, to be honest, and so we let them think they're getting one over on us (and still lose.) If someone wins "too much" or does too well, they will be approached by senior management and told that they can still play but can no longer play blackjack.
Are there any common tells that you look for when you suspect someone of card counting? Generally I'm looking to see if they deviate from a reasonable basic strategy and have an abnormal success rate on hands where they make questionable plays. At that point I'll run a count as they play and see if they are changing their strategy and/or betting patterns when the count is in their favor.
Are they aloud to keep their winnings? Yes, they get to keep what they've won. They just can't play anymore after that.
What does a player have to play for you to approach them an offer comps? Does that even happen anymore? I usually don't bet that much, is there any chance of me getting some freebies from the pit boss? Honestly these days it's all computerized. Your play (on your players card) determines the comps you get. If it's your first time or your birthday (or you've played and/or lost a lot) you'll get more than you "should."
How can the computer determine your average bet etc.? Like, the computer will know how much you initially put down, but how would it know if you're actually playing each hand? Some casinos (ours included) don't use the electronic betting recognition sofware. If you don't see the dealer pressing a little button before each hand, here's my advice - bet big right at the beginning. A lot of supervisors will put in your average bet when you first sit down and they swipe your players card and then won't adjust your average bet unless you made big changes throughout playing.
Who's your favorite person in the entire world? My favorite person in the world is my lovely girlfriend, who asked me to do this and also supports me in literally every aspect of my life. She's an incredible person, I'll tell you that much!

Have you ever had to permanently ban someone from your casino? What's the craziest way you've seen somebody get banned? We've permanently evicted people for threatening physical violence on other players and/or employees, getting into fights, things like that. A man peed under a blackjack table once; he was evicted and arrested!
I was playing blackjack once and this other got got really mad at my friend for the bet he made, he stood on a soft 16 or something. He immediately knew it was dumb and apologized to the table and the game went on. But this guy kept ranting and I said hey man, chill out. It's over now. He got in my face and wanted to fight, saying lets take this outside. I sat looking at the dealer like sooo are you gonna do something or am I gonna have to hit this guy? In the end the guy backed down but no security or anything came over. We're there people perched in wait or was this casino really shitty and security? It was Wild West in AC. Sounds like a shitty casino. I personally would have told the guy that he either stopped or he was leaving.
What are the chances of me being busted for switching my pass line to the dont pass line, after a point is established? What would typically happen if caught? Police or just booted? Good lord, don't do this. Best-case scenario you get away with it, worst-case scenario you're arrested. You could also get thrown out if they don't want to deal with the cops or it wasn't that large of an amount. But seriously, just bet the don't from the start. You make your money off of the odds anyway.
How often do you find people cheating? What are some of the dumbest/clever ways you have caught someone doing so? Cheating is less common than you may think these days. The technology we employ is really advanced, as most places have upgraded their surveillance tech. We can see a lot now. The best ways that people cheat now aren't by physically manipulating things, but by "taking shots." Little things, things like making a hand signal that could be interpreted as a hit or a stand and then raising a fuss if it doesn't go your way. Most casinos will just give you the money if it's not too much instead of fully investigate it.
The chips have always seemed susceptible to counterfeiting to me. What are the countermeasures that are not apparent. RFID? Some casinos use RFID (they'll have a more plastic feel to them.) Honestly, even high-value casinos' chips are subject to counterfeiting. I've seen stickers replaced, I've even seen people paint lower-denomination chips to look like higher-denomination chips.
Stickers? I have only been to casinos in Australia (Criwn, Star City) , but none of those could have their denomination changed by simply changing the sticker (didn't actually notice any stickers actually) because the whole chip is multicoloured plastic. Ours have stickers on them that could be taken off. They're different colors, though, so you'd have to do something else on top of that.
Does craps have the best odds in the casino if you understand the game well? Been gambling for a few years now and I have found that I typically only win when playing craps. The best odds of all the table games is betting the Don't Pass with max odds behind it. Second-best is the Pass Line with max odds behind it. Those odds are true odds, the casino has ZERO house edge.
Also to add: while the pass/don't pass are great bets, craps also has some of the worst bets in the house. Stay away from the centre action! Very good advice, prop bets are there to mess around with but don't play them if you're playing "smart."
Do the auto-shufflers for blackjack favor the house in any way? I always wonder if it uses a certain algorithm to determine how to shuffle the decks. I HATE auto-shufflers. No, they have no way of knowing how many people are playing at the table or which cards go to the dealer. It's legitimately random, moreso than some dealers who have specific shuffles.
Should I turn around and run away now while I'm still ahead? Don't play to win. Play to enjoy yourself and have a good time. Wins happen, losses happen.
Have you noticed that players who place bets for the dealers do better? A long-time Craps player gave me that advice. He said that getting the dealers involved in the game increases his luck. The dealers appreciate the bets, but it doesn't help your odds. It's an illusion of luck. But by all means, tip the dealers!
How closely are you (or other pit bosses) looking for card counters? If I'm counting and you notice, what's a good way for me to know that you spotted me? Thanks! Honestly, I'm probably not looking unless you're winning a large amount or you're making really large swings in your bets. I won't let you know if I suspect you, I'll have already called surveillance and they'll be running down (counting along) on the next shoe to see what you're doing. If you see security or people in suits near your table, just color up and leave. They won't do anything to you, but they're preparing to talk to you about what they've found and might back you off.
Ever have to lay down a beating on some unruly folk? I wish! That's old-school, before my time. If we beat up someone who was unruly the state would shut us down, guaranteed.
Why is it than when I double-down at Blackjack table, sometimes the dealer will let me have the card down while others insist its shown. Is there an industry standard? I see no disadvantage to a casino to let me have it down, it adds a bit of excitement for me. Different casinos have different rules. Most states will publish the odds for slot machines. Honestly most machines at reputable places (as in not bars) will have a return rate of 95-98%. That's a lower house edge than carnival games or even roulette.

I'm not a big table player, however I do enjoy standing back and watching friends. I've noticed in some games, especially blackjack, that there are "unwritten rules". i.e. what hands to hit/stay or split. Not everyone follows them and I've witnessed some players loudly get upset by another players style of play. What role does the casino have in these breaches of table etiquette? I'm fine with people making "dumb" moves. Generally the dealer will say "Are you suuure?" if someone is about to split up their 20 or something like that. Other players do get mad when someone does something, but we protect our players. If someone wants to make a nonstandard or risky move, they have every right to. I personally wouldn't let a player berate another player, and it has nothing to do with the casino's interests.
I see anecdotal reports every once in a while about the facial recongition used by casinos, how good is it really? I'm also interested in what it is used for other than the obvious - tracking known card counters is an obvious one but in what ways is it used that aren't so easily guessed. Facial recognition software has always been pretty strong going back for quite a while now. There aren't really too many ways it's used other than for people who have cheated or who have overall suspicious behavior. That's the only reason we'd want to run the software on someone.
I rarely tip at the craps table, but anytime the point is even I throw a two-way hardway, I realize that it is probably not ideal for the dealers and its not like I am forced to tip; but is that somewhat acceptable in the stickman world? If you're putting the crew up on any bet they're happy, I promise. A large percentage of dice players don't tip. Any two-way bet is appreciated!
I'm going to Vegas for the first time in about 2 months. I really only know how to play black jack and texas hold em, but I really don't want to play poker for hours on end while I'm there. 1) Will dealers (or customers) get mad if i stand and watch a game for a few minutes before sitting down? The only time players will get mad is if you're right on top of them. Stand back, see if you can get a pamphlet on the rules of the game you're watching, or just ask the dealers or supervisors! Honestly, they want you to play - not because they want to take your money, but because it's fun to teach and show someone. As for "easy" games, roulette is pretty easy to learn, dice is the most fun but can be overwhelming, carnival games (Three Card Poker, Mississippi Stud) are very easy since they're all poker-based.
How many people get thrown out in an average night? I'd guess 2-3 people on a weekend night. The people that get "thrown out" are usually 12 or 24-hour evictions for intoxication.
Also, do you have any special training in counting cards? Special training in counting cards? No, the casino didn't offer me training. I had to show that I could to become a Pit, though.
Have you ever stopped someone from playing who is obviously a gambling addict? Are you, or any other casino employee trained to spot the signs of gambling addiction? We're not allowed to tell someone that we think they have a problem, but we can respond if they tell us they do. We have paperwork on it, we're trained to spot it (chasing losses, claiming to bet money they can't afford, etc) and we also have a hotline they can call. Additionally, players can fill out self-exclusion paperwork banning themselves from the casino if they feel they can't gamble responsibly. If they come back while banned, they can and will be arrested for trespassing.
What is your take on the advent of legalized on-line gambling in some states? Do you see this affecting you or your bottom line? Is this the "job stealer" the Pols are carping about, or is this just another throw away issue to fill warchests and line cheap-suit pockets in the year before an election? I don't see online gambling ruining brick-and-mortar casinos at all. People like coming for the experience, it's not just the gambling.
Do you gamble at all, and if so, what's your favourite game? I like my roulette, there's nothing like the rush of adrenaline when you're on a losing streak and your strategy is to double down until you win. I don't gamble, sorry! I used to play poker a ton, and I also really love Pai Gow even though it has an absurdly high push rate per hand.
When you say it pays very well, what do you mean? what's the starting salary like and how rapidly does it increment if you do a good job? Table Games pays VERY well compared to other departments. Your housekeeping and security is probably making $10-$12/hr (more than they would at non-casino businesses, but still) and your slot techs are probably making $14 or so an hour. Dealers with the toke rate start above $20/hr, and as you go up (supervisors don't make tips where I work and at most places, although some places give supervisors a cut of it) you make more. Especially for the amount of work I do, I get paid well.
Would I get in trouble for ordering a 7&7 from the waitress? Do they kick people out for doing unlucky things? You wouldn't get in trouble at all. Just turn away from the table. Although for comedy purposes, the waitress could come back and say "7&7?" as she brought the drink really loudly, then the table sevens out and blames her.
I was once playing Casino War (yeah I know) and a dealer actually peeked at my card BEFORE dealing it. She saw it was an ACE and told me to bet everything I had. Needless to say, I won the hand. How much money would be a decent amount to bring? Not in the sense that I'm hoping to win big, but in the sense that I'd like to experience as much of the casino as I can without going over-board. Bring whatever you'd be willing to lose. Go to a casino with low limits, bring a couple hundred bucks. Do NOT bring an ATM card.
What's the saddest thing you've seen, working at a casino? Years ago a guy was playing blackjack. He lost, left, and then came back with five crumpled up $1 bills so that he could make a $5 bet. He lost, was gone for another hour, and then came back and did it again.

One day i was walking around the strip after midnight on a tuesday, with 2 friends. we went to the bellagio, and ended up walking around the (mostly vacant) floor, buying some drinks, getting really drunk, and walking around the artsy stuff. the glass garden, the cirque du soleil sculptures in that museum. A security guard came by to the museum, when we were inside, and closed the door. the lights turned off and we got locked in. i started freaking out. ive never had anything happen like this before. The girl that was with me said its ok, theres a door to the back end right here- lets see if it opens. it opened. We ended up walking through the back end of the casino, past the dishwashing and laundry and various kitchens, and got lost trying to get back to the floor (theres not really any signs back there telling you where you are or where youre going to go) We were about to ask a room service guy for some help getting back to the floor, but before we got anywhere with that (he only spoke spanish? might have been just a dishwasher), we were in a weird situation. five or six of those men in blacks with earpieces, walking a money-box with a floor manager, from the floor to the vault (i presume, i dont know how this works). the MIBs asked us a bunch of questions, determined we werent there to intercept them, and one of them guided us back to the floor, and told us to have a good time and try to keep from getting locked in off-limits areas again. i thanked him a lot and then i decided, me and my tourist friends were just going to take a straight walk from where we were, to the nearest exit to the street. it took us past the high roller slots area first, and then past the dollar video poker area. as we passed these areas, they were opening the machines and unloading their cash, and loading up cash carts with the cash. at least 2 of the MIBs recognized us, and started doing their 'always around you, but appearing to just be crossing your path while doing their thing' act. i started getting scared, and we collectively decided to hurry the fuck up and get the fuck back out of this building, we probably just looked like some idiots trying to drunkenly do oceans 11. When we went to treasure island to get back to the parking garage and start our mission home, the MIBs in the vacant casino floor all kept crossing our paths, it was really fucking bizarre. To this day, 4 years later, i am still scared to go to bellagio, because i still notice the security/mibs/whatever crossing my path much more often than i ever noticed before walking up to a loaded cash cart in the backrom on accident while drunk at like 1 am on a tuesday. The most recent one is a lady that our surveillance ran a report on and concluded that she's definitely counting. She's not that good at it, though, so we let her go because even though she bets big she doesn't actually win. We have the camera on her every time she plays, though.

It used to be Three Card, but it's all about Mississippi Stud now. Total tables at our place is ~40 or so. The amount of people cheating with old methods (counting cards, etc) has declined. The amount of people taking shots (pretending they didn't want that hit, things like that) has increased, but it's harder to prove.
Other than the obvious of betting as much on every hand as possible or increasing my hands an hour... is there any other way to increase or maximize my comp rating? There really aren't ways to maximize it. Increasing your hands per hour won't matter to the computer system, you'd honestly be better off betting more at a slower table because then it shows a higher average bet over a longer period of time.
What table game gives the most bang for the buck as far as comp pay back? As for which table games are the best, avoid mini-bacc, pai gow, and any game where you have to add bets as the hand goes on (some carnival games.)

You apply when a job is available and when a casino is starting/advertising a "dealer school." Some places will offer the training which is usually free, but you're not technically hired until after the class.

Not even obviously, but if the casino as a whole is giving free drinks, isn't every employee required to at least have a reasonable knowledge of who is incapacitated or not? Great question! Everyone has to get a responsible alcohol server card, even people that don't serve drinks. It's a basic class that goes over how to spot intoxication, drinks per hour, things like that. People who can serve drinks also have to have a bar card. Where I work, dealers and supervisors can't cut people off. The Pit calls a Beverage Supervisor who makes that call.
Related question: do you think the days of free drinks in casinos are numbered? On a couple of Vegas podcasts I listen to, this has been discussed, especially in relation to the guy suing Downtown Grand over his losses on Super Bowl weekend. The thought is that one of the biggies (MGM, Caesars) might experiment with eliminating free drinks. And if one of them does it, the other biggie will follow suit, and then all the little guys would probably eventually follow along as well. Your thoughts? It's an interesting question. Some places in the US don't serve free drinks. Everywhere is different. I don't foresee it actually taking, it's a pretty big part of "the experience."
What would be the best table game for a beginner? I love Mississippi Stud, but I would love to start branching out. My goal is to play live Texas Hold 'Em and win a hand, but I'd love to learn them all. All carnival games are the same. Let It Ride is reverse Mississippi Stud, all the other games like Three Card and Flop are just variants of poker. Live poker is a little different, you can read and learn about it! We have 3 pits on the main floor, each containing 10-16 tables, and there's 1 FM per pit, 1-2 roamers and 2-3 pit managers floating around + doing the roster for dealers. Interesting. How high tech is the security? The show Las Vegas makes it look like over the top csi levels of technology. TV shows are dumb. We have cameras everywhere that can zoom in pretty well (no ENHANCE! ENHANCE!) Huge places in Vegas probably do have very sophisticated technology, we're smaller and so we have tons of cameras, security, electronic locks and vaults, things like that.

Have you ever spotted a black jack "crew"? Or seen a "crew" taken out by the casino? I've seen people TRYING to be a "crew." Most people who think they can count cards, can't. Right after that movie 21 came out the casinos were flush with confused college kids whispering to each other, "What's the count again?"
What's it cost to get a hooker to do anal? Honestly, I have no idea. You can e-mail the prostitutes in Pahrump before going in and they would tell you if they offer the service and how much it would cost.

Do you have blackjack basic strategy down by heart? if so, and I just want to play that way, will you tell me what to do? are you allowed to tell me what to do if I just ask? Related question: do you keep a count of the cards yourself? if so are you good at predicting when a counter is going to make their big bets? Yes, I have basic strategy memorized and some dealers are allowed to assist players, it depends on the casino. I only keep count if I'm bored or I suspect someone else on the table is counting.

Very few people actually try to cheat here. Spotting card counters is all in the way that they bet. It's a certain formula with very few methods of deviation so if they don't follow it strictly it doesn't work so nobody is worried about the amateurs. If a dealer suspects someone of card counting, they report it to their pit boss who then watches the game. If the person IS thought to be card counting they are simply denied service at the casino.
What happens if you drop a chip on the ground while dealing blackjack or roulette or some other game? Would you bend down to pick it up or is the risk that someone would take the chips on the table too great? If a chip is dropped I'll call the floor supervisor over to retrieve it. Yes, the reason is to protect the chip rack.
If you were desperate for money, and you had to find a way to take, say, $250,000 out of a casino, what would your plan be? Is there anything you think you could actually get away with? There's too many security guards, surveillance, and key cards to take it in cash. It's not Ocean's 11 security but they know what they're doing. The only other option would be to steal chips but the large denomination ones are RFID tracked so that would be a bust as well. I'd have a better success rate applying for a loan at the bank.

What's your favorite game to deal? Blackjack is my personal favorite. There's a bit of an art to it that I enjoy. We ARE allowed to cut someone off but it's still a little frowned upon.
Are you allowed to cut someone off if they obviously have a problem stopping when they should, like a bartender cutting off a lush? We can also cut people off from drinking, like bartenders.
Can you explain a little more? Is it just that it's hard to tell a guy who's just lost a lot of money from a guy that has just mortgaged his house a third time? The 3rd mortgage story is actually pretty rare. Most gamblers are actually quite good with money. But there are signs we look for to spot problem gambling patterns and direct them to appropriate help.
What other games do you deal? I'm a former croupier. I deal all the games. I used to get high limit black Jack a lot, because I was young, cute and pleasant. That meant more tips and less marks. However, I always had more fun in low level games. I'd take $5 black Jack over hand held baccarat any day. Thoughts? I deal all of them as well, although I'll admit craps is not my forte. I'm always impressed with the ones who do it well. I prefer low-level stakes myself. Baccarat's a hellishy boring game to deal.
What are the signs you look for? Multiple trips to the ATM is one. Suddenly gambling much larger amounts of money is another. Referred to as going "on tilt."
So full tilt would mean gambling large sums? If so, TIL. It's a term more commonly used in poker but yeah, that's what it means.
What's the most you have seen someone win in one hand/night? The biggest I've seen in one hand was a bad beat jackpot dealt in the poker room. The winner left with a little over 250,000 dollars.
What's the etiquette when you make a mistake? I was in Vegas recently playing poker and someone innocently took an extra dollar back from the pot, so the dealer didn't return my small blind. I told him, he said the pot was right, I said I put $6 in and it was $5 total to call, he said I took $1 back, I said I didn't, we go back and forth, he makes some personal remark about my being bad at math and how could the pot be right, I make some personal remark about it not being my job to police the pot and him being bad at his job. Eventually he offered to call the floor but the guy who took the extra dollar gives it to me so no floor is called. What's the correct way to handle this type of situation? If you think a dealer has made a mistake you are correct in telling him immediately. The floor should be called if the situation isn't immediately solved. If the money in question is a small amount (say a dollar or two) then the house usually neutralizes the dispute by putting in the missing money. Larger amounts would go through surveillance though.
Vegas is a magic place to me. I love it so much and I'm planning on moving their in my late twenties or thirties, can you tell me what it's like to live in Vegas instead of just visit? Also, how did you get the job of a card dealer? Locals actually have quite a few perks. Some strip clubs, dance clubs, shows, and etc. have a locals discount or "industry night." The Vegas lifestyle is available to the locals at a cheaper rate but just remember not to do it every day. To get a job as a dealer I filled out an application, passed an audition. Simple as that.
What's the residential part of Vegas like? I've only ever seen the popular areas, Fremont and the Strip, or the deserts. And as far as the heat, I live in west texas and I love working in the dry heat. It's mostly apartment buildings and gated communities alternated by strip malls and bars. The best bars are off the strip, in my opinion.
When were you hired? What games did you have going in on your resume, what did you audition for? I was hired for my current job in late 2010. I had all standard table games on my resume and I was auditioning for poker. Resume's aren't as important in dealing as the audition. If you've been dealing for 30 years and you mess up during the audition, they're going to go with the guy with only 1 year of experience who aced it.
What is the largest tip you have received at the table? Is it possible to pick up a casino employee or is that frowned upon? The largest tip I've received was 600 dollars. I saw a player toss a cranberry (5k) chip to a dealer once. Tips are a big "X" factor for your income and if you're not working at a casino full time it can be difficult to budget.
I'm sorry, I completely missed your second question. Picking up a casino employee is possible and not really frowned upon. Don't expect much from the girls dealing in the "party pits" though.
Can roulette dealers really drop the ball within a number or two? Do you work at a newer casino or an old one? I miss the sports book at the Frontier. How long have you been at this? No, roulette dealers cannot do that. Roulette wheels are checked for bias electronically and any suspicious patterns would attract attention. I've work/ed at newer casinos and older ones. I prefer the character of the older houses but I think the Aria is amazing. I've been dealing for about 10 years now.
I was playing blackjack at the Hard Rock a few years ago when a couple of prostitutes joined the table for awhile, trying to strike it up with my brother and me. They eventually gave up and left. The dealer told us he referred to these girls as "rack rats" because when they are successful, it hurt the house take (chips accumulating in his rack). I'm going to Vegas in a couple of months and I love magic. What are some of the best magic shows to go to and how far in advance should I buy tickets? By far the best magic show, in my opinion, is Mac King's show at Harrah's. Simple, but amazing illusions in an intimate-sized theatre and very funny. Penn & Teller are great as well. The tickets can be picked up for a discount at ticket booths around the strip the day of the show. The kiosks are called Same-Day Tickets or Half-Price Tickets and are a good value. Stay away from the Criss Angel show. It's terrible.

Set aside about 40 dollars apiece and play the minimum that the table allows.
